NFRN members are being invited by the government to have their say on the impact the tobacco display ban has had has on their businesses.

Four years after tobacco displays went dark in small shops, the Department of Health and Social Care wants to understand the impact that the display ban and the age restrictions and proxy purchasing ban has had and is having on retailers in England and Wales.

In a new consultation on all tobacco regulations introduced between 2010 and 2016, the government is also seeking views on the bans on selling nicotine inhaling products (NIPs) including e-cigarettes to under 18s and on proxy purchasing.

The government committed to reviewing the Tobacco Advertising and Promotion (Display) (England) Regulations 2010 and The Nicotine Inhaling Products (Age of Sale and Proxy Purchasing) Regulations 2015 within five years of their implementation and through this consultation it is seeking to find out how effective the legislation has been in discouraging young people from taking up smoking and vaping, encouraging existing smokers to quit and protecting others from the harmful effect of cigarette smoke. It also asks about economic losses or gains for businesses associated with the introduction of covered gantries.
