NFRN Events Manager Nigel Smith reports from the first ever Menzies Maidstone Open Day.

Independent retailers from the South East, London and Eastern Counties districts descended onto the Menzies Distribution Depot in Maidstone on Thursday 10 May for the latest joint initiative between the NFRN and Menzies.

The event, which was the first ever open day to be held at the Menzies Maidstone depot, was organised jointly between the South East District, Menzies Maidstone and NFRN. It gave members and non members alike the opportunity to speak to senior managers from Menzies on a one-to-one basis to discuss any issues they are facing, take a detailed “open all access” tour of the depot, grab some great deals from the several trade partners who were present, and meet up with fellow retailers.

The trade partners present were extremely impressed with the event, with PepsiCo / Walkers reporting a sell out of deals and Cadburys reporting many enquiries.

Our thanks must go to Menzies Maidstone Regional Manager Ian Nisbet and his team, the South East District, the NFRN events and news teams, trade partners who attended, and most importantly the retailers who made the effort to attended. One retailer summed up the day when they said “brilliant, when’s the next one!”

Commenting on the event, NFRN Head of News Brian Murphy said: “This visit gave retail customers served by Menzies a chance to understand the packing and returns process. It also gave them a chance to see the scale of the business and gain a better understanding of why bunching occurs.

“These trade days are a fabulous networking opportunity and those attending can meet district officials and NFRN staff and renew acquaintances.”
