As editor in chief of the Daily and Sunday Express, Gary Jones (pictured below) appreciates the importance of home news delivery in getting his publications into his readers’ hands.
But it is from being a paperboy in his youth that Mr Jones truly recognises the dedication involved, such as getting up early on weekdays and weekends and delivering papers in all weathers.
“Despite the early mornings I am forever grateful for the discipline that being a paperboy gave me,” Mr Jones said. “It was great to earn my own money and it taught me responsibility and independence. Reading the headlines every morning also got me interested in a journalism career. Now, as editor in chief of the Daily and Sunday Express, I recognise the crucial role that news deliverers play in getting my newspapers into the hands of my readers and that’s why I am keen to reward and recognise those paperboys and girls who show exceptional dedication, politeness and who go the extra mile, whatever the weather.”
Across the UK teams of professional and reliable adults and teenagers are ensuring that daily newspapers are delivered through the letterboxes of readers, often arriving considerably earlier than the Royal Mail and at a fraction of the cost!
That’s why the Daily and Sunday Express, in conjunction with Store2Door, now want to highlight the wonderful service given by so many independent retailers and their army of delivery staff who work come rain or shine 364 days of the year.
We are, therefore, pleased to announce the launch of the Store2Door Home News Delivery Excellence scheme in partnership with the two Express newspapers.
This scheme is exclusive to NFRN members and their delivery staff and seeks to recognise individuals who go above and beyond when it comes to providing this special service to customers.
You can nominate yourself or a member of your delivery team by completing the form below but what is really exciting is that the scheme will be heavily supported within both the Daily and Sunday Express with their 308,000 readers encouraged to nominate their favourite news deliverer.
A winner will be chosen every month from the nominations received and will be presented with a prize of £100. Each winner will also be automatically shortlisted for the prestigious NFRN National Awards which are taking place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on the evening of January 28 2020.
How to nominate
To nominate your star deliverers all you have to do is complete the form below and answer the two questions, providing as much relevant information as possible and up to six photographs of them at work.
