The Retail Mutual has expanded its portfolio of products and services for independent retailers with the introduction of two new health cover offerings; a Health Cash Plan and an Access Surgery product.

Health can be an unpredictable thing and for small business owners such as news retailers, suffering an accident or serious illness can have major repercussions for their livelihood. This is why The Retail Mutual has teamed up with Westfield Health, with the aim of providing independent retailers and small business owners with a reliable, affordable and comprehensive health cover option that is designed to suit their individual needs.

The Health Cash Plan puts the client in control, offering access to valuable health and wellbeing services plus the option to claim money back, up to set limits, towards the cost of essential healthcare. You can use the plan to claim money back towards GP-referred diagnostic consultations, dental treatments, eye tests and even glasses and contact lenses. It also includes cash payouts for hospital stays, day surgery (NHS or private) or for the arrival of a new baby – giving busy retailers some breathing space while you step away from running your business.

To complement the Health Cash Plan, The Retail Mutual and Westfield Health are offering members an additional Access Surgery product, providing a lowcost alternative to traditional private health insurance. Offering two levels of cover, the Access Surgery plan aims to facilitate prompt diagnosis and referral and fast access to a wide variety of treatments for acute conditions. The plans cover most surgical procedures except heart or cancer-related treatment – areas which the NHS already prioritise. The plans can be tailored to suit members’ individual needs, giving you the flexibility you need to choose the cover that is right for you.

Commenting on the introduction of the new health cover offerings, Retail Mutual Manager Rikul Patel said.“These private health plans are a great way to help retailers budget for their everyday health costs and give them extra protection in the event of the unexpected. We’re delighted to be able to offer this service to our members and provide them with even more great products and services to help the UK’s independent retail community.”

This is the latest in a series of new product launches from The Retail Mutual to support newsagents, convenience store owners and independent retailers across the UK, and where better to unveil the new offering than at the NFRN’s Annual Conference in Torquay last month.

In addition to business cover, members can now look to The Retail Mutual for home cover and landlord cover for those who rent out additional properties. It also provides access to life insurance and critical illness insurance plus a dedicated mortgage service powered by L&C.
