Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s (11th December) ministerial round table on retail crime, NFRN National President Mike Mitchelson called on the government to take steps to help protect retailers selling age restricted products.

Mr Mitchelson said: “The level of support for David Hanson’s amendment to the Offensive Weapons Bill showed that the NFRN’s message that we cannot go on accepting violence against retailers has been understood by MPs.

“While Mr Hanson’s amendment related only to the sale of age restricted products covered by the Bill, I hope that in our meeting with Home Office Minister Victoria Atkins we can agree a way forward that will protect the sellers of all age restricted products,” Mr Mitchelson continued.

The NFRN has been campaigning actively on all aspects of retail crime and provides the secretariat to the APPG for Retail Crime chaired by Steve McCabe MP.  Mrs Atkins is due to meet this group in January.
