Farmers Weekly, the number one farming and trade/professional title in the UK has been a key staple in the lives of British farmers for more than 85-years – supported throughout by the local, rural, and regional stores that are the backbone of their communities.

We’d like to take the opportunity to say a massive ‘Thank you!’ and invite you to enter into our latest initiative to help support the newsagents’ like yourself – ‘The Farmers Weekly Independent Newsagent of the Year’ award.

We value and support newsagents like yourself, which is why, for the first time, we’d like to include the independent newsagents into one of our Awards categories. Feel free to nominate yourself or encourage your customers to do it for you – (they could win £200 for the privilege!)

The winner will receive two tickets to attend our annual Farmers Weekly Awards held on 3rd October 2019, at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane London. They will also receive hotel accommodation for the night, a prize of £1,000 and the title of ‘Farmers Weekly Independent Newsagent of the Year’!

Farmers Weekly is looking for the Independent Newsagent of the Year 2019

Farmers Weekly are running a ‘Retailer of the Year’ initiative throughout July  whereby their readers can nominate their local independent retailer. Full details highlighting the promotion will be included as adverts within the pages of the title as well as flashed on the front cover(s) and readers will nominate their retailer by e-mailing or submitting an entry on line with accompanying words as to why the retailer should win.

Mystery shoppers will then visit the stores to evaluate the entry and the best of these will then be shortlisted and a panel from Marketforce and the Farmers Weekly will pick the final winner.

The winner will be announced at the forthcoming Farmers Weekly Gala Dinner evening held in Central London at the end of October 2019.

Farmers Weekly front coverThe winner and partner will receive a cash prize of £1,000 which will be presented at the event and will also receive overnight paid for hotel accommodation to make the moment even more special.

This is a category wide promotion so all Independents* will have the opportunity to participate and it will be promoted across various channels and platforms including print, on line, trade associations and press releases will be sent out to the trade press (Retail Newsagent) etc to provide full exposure and coverage.

Commenting on the new initiative, Farmer’s Weekly executive editor Philip Clarke said “Farmers Weekly is one of the top 60 performing titles in the UK, with a rich history steeped in heritage and tradition. We want to help the retailer, engage with and showcase our product in their stores. We sell over 15,000 copies of Farmers Weekly per week throughout the UK, just over half of which are sold in independent newsagents.

“We value and support newsagents like yourselves, which is why for the first time we’d like to include the independent newsagents into one of our Awards categories.”

Please ensure if you stock this title you have sufficient copy and that you give it prime retail space for the duration of the nomination period and you encourage your customers to take the time to nominate you and point out the e-mail address they need to use to do so.

*Although this is aimed primarily at the independent retailer, any retailer can be entered and subsequently judged for the award.
