The Chancellor and MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, Philip Hammond, has “cut the ribbon” at a community celebration today to mark the official opening of modernised Weybridge Post Office and store,

During a two week refit, the Post Office and store have been fully refurbished by new Postmaster Selva Muttiah. Post Office services are now provided from three modern counters – one full-screened counter and two open-plan positions.

Weybridge Post Office is now open for longer: Monday to Saturday: 8.30am – 6pm and Sunday: 10am – 2pm. This is an extra 13 hours and 30 minutes a week, including Sunday, plus Saturday afternoon making it far more convenient for customers to visit.

The changes are part of a major Government-backed modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to visit the Post Office, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Philip Hammond, said: “Weybridge Post Office and store now look really great. The 7-day opening and longer hours will make a big difference to people with busy lives. It is great to see first-hand how the Government-backed modernisation programme is really benefitting communities in my constituency and across the UK.”

Mr Muttiah, who already has three Post Offices in the Brighton area, lives in Surrey, and is very enthusiastic about his new branch. He said: “People are very happy and excited about the changes. Wow! is the reaction to the Post Office and shop when they enter. There is a real buzz about the new-look and friendly, welcoming environment.”
