NFRN members in Witney and the surrounding areas have been warned over a new scam that could leave you seriously out of pocket.

The warning comes after a male fraudster entered a member’s store yesterday (19 April 2018) and asked for directions to a petrol station in the area. Before leaving the store the fraudster asked the member for his name. Just over 20 minutes later the owner of the local petrol station visited the members’s shop demanding payment of around £200 worth of petrol and goods which the fraudster had just bought. The owner of the petrol station explained that the gentleman had advised him he was the brother of the member and that he would pay as he had forgotten his wallet. This was a scam.

The member has advised that the owner of the petrol station has contacted the police and that he will if required provide CCTV to assist with their enquiries.
