We have been made aware by members that fake £50 Northern Irish bank notes have been found circulating in Bishopton, West of Scotland.

Remember to be on the lookout for forgeries – you can find the official guidelines on how to determine whether a banknote is legitimate here and here.

If you find yourself in possession of a fake bank note, bring it to your local bank branch or police station as soon as you can. You will be provided with a receipt and the counterfeit will be retained, analysed and subsequently destroyed by the bank or the authorities if found fake. If the note is genuine reimbursement will be made in full.

It is a criminal offence to keep or pass on a note that you know to be counterfeit.

Remember to protect yourself and your business – check the banknotes you receive, and when in doubt go to the bank.

If you need help, contact NFRN Connect or NFRN Legal for legal advice.
